The 1BiH-1Book 2020 Project

The 1BiH-1Book project is designed to support BiH educators in teaching and exploring critical and creative thinking through English and arts literacy. The 1BiH-1Book 2020 project builds on a partnership with the University of Texas at Austin, which has been training K-12 and university educators in the use of drama-based pedagogy (DBP) in the language learning classroom since 2018. The text selected for the 1BiH1Book2020 project, is Dear Martin by Nic Stone. During this Covid-19 time, when travel restrictions are challenging, DBP trainers and UT Austin students and colleagues (Faith Hillis, Beth Link and Laura Epperson) have prepared resources and networks to promote ongoing educational innovation in BiH through virtual resource development, These resources include:

  • Background and contextual information for the book Dear Martin focused on issues of race, racism, and systemic injustice within the United States. (To be completed in September of 2020. Please check back for updates!)

  • Learning modules for visual (Zines and Collage) and performing arts (Spoken Word and Digital Storytelling) projects which teachers can use to explore themes from Dear Martin in their classroom and through inter-ethnic arts project partnerships.
